Kippewa's Horseback Riding Camp

Kippewa offers a true equestrian specialty program with all the fun and traditions of sleepaway camp. Girls ride six days a week and spend one day a week learning grooming, tack & horse care along with stable management skills (2 week riding option also available).

This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy non-competitive, top-notch English riding instruction with an emphasis on safety, fun and skill development following the standards of the U.S. Pony Club and British Horse Society.

Our program welcomes first-time riders, beginners and advanced riders with individual attention tailored to your level. With dressage as the foundation of the program, girls start with equitation, a balanced seat, and then explore hunter/jumper disciplines. Girls work at their own pace in a fun and relaxed atmosphere with highly qualified, dedicated riding instructors committed to meeting the varied needs of the riders.

Kippewa Stables once belonged to the Woolworth Family and was part of their racehorse estate. Located on camp grounds, the stables are convenient for all campers to access. The facility includes 29 horse stalls, grooming areas, two sand rings and one grass ring. A 1/2 mile trot track surrounds the lesson rings.

The Equestrian program is directed by Jim Saindon, who has coordinated the program for over 25 years. A retired middle school and high school teacher, Jim was also a competitive rider who trained and showed Arabian horses, winning medals in the U.S. and Canada. With Jim, horses are a lifelong passion that began when he was 12 years old. He currently owns Skyview Farm, right next door to Kippewa, where he continues to raise and train horses year-round.
